Everything to know about Italian cuisine

Italian cuisine is undoubtedly one of the most popular in the world. For its universally recognized nutritional qualities, its simplicity, its colors and its relatively cheap appearance (pasta is a wonderful example), it has conquered the world. Taking an interest in Italian gastronomy is not summed up in cooking just a plate of pasta. It is also a question of becoming aware of its dazzling success in the world, of discovering the origin of the Italian products that are prepared.

Italian cuisine all over the world

When we talk about Italian gastronomy in the world, we could almost talk about a real conquest! Indeed, the fusion of Italian cuisine around the world is impressive, as this example illustrates: 14 billion pasta dishes would be cooked every year. Pasta alla carbonara would also be the most consumed dish in the world. But woe to you if you add cream to this famous recipe of traditional Italian cuisine, you risk offending our Italian friends. The success of Italian gastronomy in the world, and its incredible diffusion, is related to the different migratory flows of the Italian people: The Great Emigration from 1860 to 1930, when the Italians left for the American continent, European emigration since the 1950s. It is therefore in North America, South America and Europe that we find a strong Italian influence in the dishes.

Crimes against Italian cuisine: the errors of the whole world in a survey

Italian cuisine is among the most popular in the world, especially by us Italians, who consider it a real reason for pride.

But if we consider that most foreign countries do not see the problem of putting ketchup on pasta, the concept of “Italian” cuisine at an international level takes on a completely different flavor. Between adding pineapple on pizza and cream in carbonara, it is clear that we inhabitants of the Bel Paese must strive to make the world understand that drawing inspiration from an Italian dish is not enough to define it as such.

Italian cuisine: the most loved

As for the culinary art, we have always fought to make our recipes stand out on the international scene and defend our dishes with all our strength, especially from the attacks of French rivals. In 2018 we managed to be recognized as the most popular national cuisine in the world. YouGov, a leading global market research firm, has shown that Italian cuisine is the most loved by 84% of foreign nations. The survey was carried out on a sample of more than 25,000 people from 24 different countries across 34 national cuisines. Those who absolutely adore our culinary tradition the most are us Italians, with 99% approval, second are the Spaniards followed by the French, while those who least appreciate it are the Chinese.
